Heart Internet email with Gmail
Here's a very quick run through setting up a site with Heart Internet (will likely be similar for other mail providers) to both send and receive emails from a work address in gmail.
- Click the Settings cog to the top right in gmail.
- Accounts and Import tab
- Check email from other accounts: (This is for incoming/receiving email)
- Either “Add an email account” for a new one. Or “edit info” next to the account you want to edit.
- Enter your email address, this will also be your username
- Enter your password, if you do not know it, use the information at the top of this document to reset it and then save it to a password safe (e.g. Lastpass but not to a shared folder)
- POP Server: e.g. mail.domain.co.uk
- I would leave the tickboxes all unticked, except for “Label incoming messages” as this can be useful to see.
- Save changes, this will test to make sure it works.
- Now to set up the outgoing/sending email.
- Scroll up to “Send mail as”
- Either “Add another email address” for a new one.
- Or “edit info” next to the account you want to edit.
- Enter your full name, email and untick “Treat as an alias” if it’s ticked.
- SMTP Server: e.g. mail70.extendcp.co.uk
- Port: 587
- Username: Your email full address
- Enter your password
- Select “Secured connection using TLS (recommended)”
- Save changes, this will test to make sure it works.
- All done
You should now be able to send and receive emails from/to your own site email address but within gmail.
